Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme

Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) was launched with World Bank assistance in November 2004 to detect and respond to disease outbreaks quickly. In West Bengal, project function started in 2006-07. In 2012 World Bank has removed its assistance and IDSP became Programme under Domestic Budget Support of GoI.

Why IDSP?

Integration of all outbreak-prone communicable diseases into one surveillance system as far as possible. A uniform mechanism of reporting and analysis of all major communicable diseases.

Objectives are :

- monitoring the disease burden and changes in its trend;
- curbing disease outbreaks through early detection and proper response
Also detection of emergence of any new/unusual communicable disease.
